  • Workshop Organisation: Joachim Weickert will be one of the co-organisers of a Schloss Dagstuhl Seminar on Inpainting-Based Image Compression (November 13-18, 2016).

  • Invited Speaker: Joachim Weickert is going to give an invited talk at the International Conference on Imaging, Vision and Machine Learning Based on Optimization and PDEs (Bergen, Norway, August 29 - September 1, 2016).

  • Editorial Board: In February 2016, Joachim Weickert has been appointed to the editorial board of the Springer book series Computational Imaging and Vision.

  • Ph.D. Defense: On September 25, 2015, Oliver Demetz has defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Feature Invariance versus Change Estimation in Variational Motion Estimation". Prof. Andrés Bruhn (University of Stuttgart) was external committee member.

  • Reviewer Award: At the Fifth International Conference on Scale Space and Variational Methods in Computer Vision (SSVM 2015, Lge Cap Ferret, France, May 31 - June 4, 2015), the MIA group has been awarded for very thorough reviewing.

  • Ph.D. Defense: On March 30, 2015, Laurent Hoeltgen has defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Optimal Interpolation Data for Image Reconstructions". Prof. Thomas Pock (Graz University of Technology, Austria) was external committee member.

  • Computer Science Teaching Award: On October 20, 2014, a Busy Beaver Teaching Award of the computer science students has been given to Pascal Peter (instructor) and Joachim Weickert (examiner) for their classes on Image Acquisition Methods.

  • Ph.D. Defense: On October 6, 2014 Markus Mainberger has defended his Ph.D. thesis on "PDE-based Image Compression Based on Edges and Optimal Data". Prof. Sren Forchhammer (DTU, Lyngby, Denmark) was external committee member.

  • Koenderink Prize: At the European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV 2014, Zurich, Switzerland, Sept. 6-12, 2014), Thomas Brox, Andres Bruhn, Nils Papenberg, and Joachim Weickert have received the Jan Koenderink Prize for Fundamental Contributions in Computer Vision. This test of time award was given for their ECCV 2004 paper "High accuracy optical flow estimation based on a theory for warping".

  • Invited Speaker: Joachim Weickert was an invited speaker at the TCE Conference on Trends in Signal and Image Processing (Technion, Haifa, Israel, May 25-28, 2014).

  • Keynote Talk: Joachim Weickert was a keynote speaker at the 21st International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP 2014, May 12-15, 2014, Dubrovnik, Croatia).

  • Computer Science Teaching Award: On April 14, 2014, Oliver Demetz and Joachim Weickert have received a Busy Beaver Teaching Award of the computer science students for their seminar on Advances in Image Processing and Computer Vision.

  • Area Chair: Joachim Weickert has served as area chair for the Computer Vision Track of the 22nd International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR 2014, August 24-28, 2014, Stockholm, Sweden).

  • Conference Section Organisation: Gerlind Plonka-Hoch and Joachim Weickert have been co-organisers of the Mathematical Signal and Image Processing Section within the GAMM Annual Meeting 2014.

  • Editorial Board: In January 2014, Joachim Weickert has been appointed to the editorial board of the SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences.
