Paper Award: On August 31, 2012,
Christopher Schroers, Henning Zimmer, Levi Valgaerts, Andrés Bruhn,
Oliver Demetz, and Joachim Weickert
have received a Paper Award at the
DAGM-OAGM 2012 Conference
for their paper
"Anisotropic Range Image Integration".

ARD / ZDF Award for Women and Media Technology:
Judith Jakob is the winner of the second prize in the
2012 ARD / ZDF Award Ceremony for Women and Media Technology.
This award is based on her master thesis in applied mathematics that she
has written in our group. It is concerned with mathematical restoration
methods for old movies.

Ph.D. Defense:
On July 11, 2012 Pascal Gwosdek has defended his Ph.D. thesis on
"Hardware-Accelerated Algorithms in Visual Computing".
Prof. Horst Bischof (Technical University of Graz) was external committee
member.

Computer Science Teaching Award:
Joachim Weickert has received a Busy Beaver Teaching Award of the computer
science students for his classes on
Image Processing and Computer Vision.

Mathematics Teaching Award:
Joachim Weickert has received the Mathematics Teaching Award for the Winter
Term 2011 / 2012 for his classes on
Image Processing and Computer Vision.

Google Scholarship:
In June 2012, Franzika Ebel will be awarded a Google scholarship.
It is partly based on her bachelor thesis that she has written in
our group.

New Rooms:
As of April 1, 2012 the MIA Group has moved. You can find us now in
the fourth floor of Building E1.7.

Professor Position:
Michael Breuß has accepted an offer for a tenure-track assistant
professor position at the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU,
Cottbus, Germany), where he will head the
Applied Mathematics and Computer Vision Group.

Ph.D. Defense:
On March 23, 2012, Christian Schmaltz has defended his Ph.D. thesis on
"Compression, Pose Tracking, and Halftoning".
Prof. Luis Alvarez (University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) and
Prof. Bodo Rosenhahn (University of Hanover) were external committee
members.

Joachim Weickert has become elected member of the
Academia Europaea - The Academy of Europe.

On February 10, 2012, Henning Zimmer has defended his Ph.D. thesis on
"Correspondence Problems in Computer Vision:
Novel Models, Numerics, and Applications".
Prof. Daniel Cremers (Technical University of Munich) was
external committee member.
