  • Computer Science Teaching Award: On April 18, 2016, a Busy Beaver Teaching Award of the computer science students has been given to Joachim Weickert for his classes on Differential Equations in Image Processing and Computer Vision.

  • Jean Kuntzmann Prize: Joachim Weickert is the laureat of the Prix Jean Kuntzmann 2016 pour les Sciences du Numérique. This prize is awarded by the Laboratoire Jean Kuntzmann and the Persyval-Lab of the University Grenoble Alpes to honour outstanding interdisciplinary research that covers mathematics, computer science, and applications.

  • Workshop Organisation: Joachim Weickert will be one of the co-organisers of a Schloss Dagstuhl Seminar on Inpainting-Based Image Compression (November 13-18, 2016).

  • Invited Speaker: Joachim Weickert is going to give an invited talk at the International Conference on Imaging, Vision and Machine Learning Based on Optimization and PDEs (Bergen, Norway, August 29 - September 1, 2016).

  • Area Chair: Joachim Weickert is going to serve as area chair for the Computer Vision and Robot Vision Track of the 23rd International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR 2016, Dec. 4-8, 2016, Cancun, Mexico).

  • Mobility Grant: Naoufal Amrani has received a mobility grant from the Autonomous University of Barcelona that covers a three months visit to our group between May and July 2016. It allows to continue our collaboration on hyperspectral image compression that has started in 2015.

  • Editorial Board: In February 2016, Joachim Weickert has been appointed to the editorial board of the Springer book series Computational Imaging and Vision.

  • Ph.D. Defense: On September 25, 2015, Oliver Demetz has defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Feature Invariance versus Change Estimation in Variational Motion Estimation". Prof. Andrés Bruhn (University of Stuttgart) was external committee member.

  • Reviewer Award: At the Fifth International Conference on Scale Space and Variational Methods in Computer Vision (SSVM 2015, Lège Cap Ferret, France, May 31 - June 4, 2015), the MIA group has been awarded for very thorough reviewing.

  • Ph.D. Defense: On March 30, 2015, Laurent Hoeltgen has defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Optimal Interpolation Data for Image Reconstructions". Prof. Thomas Pock (Graz University of Technology, Austria) was external committee member.
