After receiving my diploma degree (1995) and Ph.D. (1998) in mathematics from Leipzig University, I became a post-doc with the graduate study group (Graduiertenkolleg) on quantum field theory at Leipzig University till 1999. From 2000 on, I worked as an assistant professor at the Economics Faculty of Leipzig University, doing research in mathematical modelling of economical processes.

Since May, 2002, I am a member of the Mathematical Image Analysis group at Saarbrücken. From September 2005 till February 2006 I pursued a research project funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG – German research fund) at Emory University, Atlanta, USA, and the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. In January, 2009, I finished habilitation in mathematics at Saarland University.

From September 2008 till April 2009 I held a visiting full professor's position at Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg.
